Gender Affirming Care Review

Help Inform the Future of Gender Affirming Care for children and adolescents in Queensland

Gender-affirming care isn’t one-size-fits-all and looks different for everyone. That’s why your voice is critical to help shape the future of gender affirming care for children and adolescents in Queensland.

An independent review is underway in Queensland to explore the latest evidence and ethical considerations around the use of gender affirming medical care; specifically, puberty blockers and hormone treatments for children and adolescents under 18 experiencing gender dysphoria.

The review will include a gender affirming care survey to help inform future policy decisions and service standards for Queensland’s healthcare services and public hospital.

It’s not about making recommendations for individual treatment, but about ensuring the Queensland healthcare system is safe, evidence-based, and responsive to the needs of young people and families.

The Queensland Government’s gender affirming care submission is open to trans, gender diverse, and non-binary people, as well as families, peer workers, social supports and community allies.

The survey provides a platform to share your experience on what’s working, what needs improvement, what’s missing and what needs to change.

The survey itself can be overwhelming or difficult to answer for some due to the language and terminology used. To ensure that all experiences and voices are included in this review.
We have developed a factsheet to assist participants in completing the survey.

The Factsheet helps by simplifying and explaining some of the medical terminology and complex language used in the survey.

The purpose of the factsheet is to inform and empower participants to confidently submit their responses. It is in no way designed to influence participant’s responses or provide recommendations. It does not constitute advice, nor does it seek to influence, direct, or prescribe the responses of participants.

The survey takes around 10 minutes and is completely confidential.

Together, we can ensure gender-affirming care is informed by real people, real needs, and real stories. Your insights and contribution will help Queensland build better pathways, policies, and practices for future trans, gender diverse, and non-binary children and adolescence across Queensland.
